Q. How much does a model cost?

A. It varies. Without knowing the type of model and the level of detail required it is difficult to assess the cost.

Factors affecting cost:

  • level of detail
  • size/scale of model
  • cover needed
  • pedestal needed with or without locking casters
  • lighting required
  • travel case required
  • amount of 3D printing required, etc.
Q. How long does it take to make a model?

A. The time it takes to make a model will depend on the factors listed below. As a rule of thumb, reach out for quotes 10-12 weeks in advance, even earlier for larger projects.

Turn-around time depends on our current work load so we recommend that you contact us early!

Q. What does Level of Detail mean?

A. High, Medium or Low:
A model may be comprised of different levels of detail as the one shown below.

The level of detail a model requires depends on what you are showcasing. Sometimes a model needs to represent a structure and not necessarily show the detail of the structure. The example below shows all three levels of detail. High, Medium and Low. Just because a structure is white does not necessarily make it a low detail item. It can be highly detailed by adding gables, railings, people, cars, trees, etc and all be white. On the flip side, an item could be low detail, yet painted green.

Q. What materials are models made from?

A. Laser cutting and 3D print technology is leveraged to make our models. The materials used can range from acrylic, styrene, urethane, wood, brass, aluminum and other durable long-lasting materials. We also use only top-grade automotive paint for our models.

Model bases are constructed using torsion box technique for added durability. Base trim and cover lip are covered using Wilson Art Graphite Nebula.

Q. Do I need to provide CAD files in order to have a model made?

A. We prefer that you provide CAD files but it is not always necessary.

If you do not have the CAD files our in-house 3D Scanning Dept. (who have the necessary expertise & equipment) can help, whether it is a landscape, building, figurine, etc.

Q. How do I take care of a model?
Q. Is delivery of the model included?

A. Local delivery is included; however, shipping is not.

Q. Can you fix other company’s models?

A. Yes, even if we didn’t build your model we can repair and restore an existing model to its former glory.
